History of Nepal

The history of Nepal begins in the middle of 9th century, when the arrival of the Mongols to this territory. However, traces are known dating back to the third century BC, revealing that human presence has been present in the Himalayas for 9,000 years. The first dynasty, between the fourth and tenth centuries, transformed the inhospitable Himalayan Mountains into a place of interest at the intellectual-cultural level. Except for the north of the country, from the twelfth century Nepal was colonized by the Indo-Nepalese, and the territory was divided, three centuries later, into three principalities, that is, ruled by independent dynasties. In the eighteenth century the country was conquered by the Gurkas (Indo-Afghan ethnic group), exercising absolute power over the tribes here. It was in the year 1803 that Great Britain declared war on Nepal.

Culture of Nepal

The culture of Nepal is quite eclectic, as the Nepalese people have quite a few ethnic groups, which result in what we know today as their population. Most people reproduce in their daily lives customs, traditions of Hindu culture, such as devotion to Hinduism. However, this religion coexists with Buddhists, who, though comparatively few in number to the Hindus, are immensely evident in Nepalese society. The Newaris are an indigenous people who greatly influence the culture of Nepal, especially at the musical level (they use huge percussion, wind and string instruments). Music is a key element in everyday life, which is used to serve religious celebrations or rituals. Hindus do not eat meat, so their menus are 100% vegetarian. The Dhal is a soup of lentils and spicy, that cannot miss.
